The aim of the Basic Skills and ESOL courses are to provide the opportunity for people from the local community to improve their basic maths, English and computer skills, build confidence and aspirations and allow them to enjoy learning in a positive and friendly environment.
Studying at NOVA provides the opportunity to develop skills and employability, meet other members of the local community from both similar and different backgrounds and to share information, knowledge and experiences. Learners are supported in the classroom by qualified and experienced tutors and volunteers.
NOVA offers Pre-Entry to Level 2 courses and qualifications. Courses are accredited by OCR and learners who pass the end of course assessment receive a nationally recognized qualification and an in-house certificate of attendance.
Courses: Literacy, ESOL, Basic Skills, ICT, Numeracy, Citizenship
NOVA adopts a holistic approach and incorporates a variety of trips and visits into courses, where learners can learn outside the classroom and make a connection with new places - from the local library to Chelsea Pensioners, the BBC to the British Museum to hearing a talk from a local social enterprise entrepreneur, there are many different and exciting new experiences each term.
Anyone interested in joining a course simply needs to register with NOVA and complete an initial assessment to establish which level and class would be appropriate. Learners are asked to bring photo id (ideally a passport), proof of address and benefits, if applicable, when registering with NOVA.
Courses run in line with Kensington and Chelsea's school term dates. Most courses accept learners throughout the term if places are available. We welcome all levels, abilities, and backgrounds - we only ask for a good level of commitment.

Learners are asked to pay a membership fee of £10 per term for all courses. This fee was introduced partly to encourage good levels of commitment. Once the membership has been paid, all Numeracy and Literacy courses are free.
Where full funding is not available for ESOL and ICT courses, some of the cost may be passed on the learner if that individual is not eligible for full fee remission. On some occasions learners may also be required to purchase textbooks and pay examination fees.
