Gain valuable experience by helping the community

Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation and have been a vital element since Nova was established in 1983. We have a strong tradition of encouraging learners and users to develop themselves as volunteers within Nova and progress to further education and paid employment.

Volunteers are involved in all areas of Nova:

  • Reception: taking calls and messages, meeting and greeting learners and visitors
  • Administration: filing, using the database and creating documents
  • Numeracy, Literacy, ESOL and ICT classes: supporting learners and tutors in classes
  • Information, Advice and Guidance: working with clients in workshops and supporting individuals

Volunteering can help you:

  • Be productive and learn new skills
  • Increase confidence
  • Meet new people
  • Gain experience for your CV
  • Help the community
  • Develop career opportunities

DID YOU KNOW?

More than half of our paid staff are ...

More than half of our paid staff are former volunteers and 75% of our volunteers are former learners.

Over 50% of our volunteers from 2009/2010 are now in employment, so we have an excellent track record of engaging people as learners and moving them on to voluntary and then paid positions.
