Numeracy and Literacy

The Numeracy and Literacy unit at NOVA, ‘The Learning Curve’ can help you with all these things and more. The written word and numbers enter our lives on a daily basis and our ability to use them effectively can dramatically improve how well we can cope.

Literacy classes can equip you with practical and useful skills such as letter writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Numeracy classes also focus on how we can use maths in our day to day lives; for everything from adding up shopping bills to comparing interest rates on loans.

Everything is explained by patient, dedicated and knowledgeable tutors. There is no need to feel intimidated as we can take you from the most basic of levels, building up confidence and increasing skills at a pace which you feel comfortable.

You do not need a specific goal other than the desire to improve, however you can also work towards the National Tests at Level 1 and 2 (pre-GCSE and GCSE grades A-C). The National Tests are recognized by employers and can help you to gain employment as they are accepted in lieu of GCSE English and Maths.

Courses are added to the Learning Curve timetable at the beginning of each term, according to need and availability of tutors and space. For example if 5-10 people have been screened and assessed to have similar needs at Pre-Entry Level and we have resources available we will open a course for those students.
